12 Jun The Inner Metamorphosis
A Journey Through Loneliness
Ilaria’s work is inspired by her experience, it represents a journey of deep reflection and personal growth through loneliness.
The metamorphosis of the butterfly has been used as a metaphor to narrate the lonely experiences of the artist, an experience that has been particularly felt during the process of adapting to a new life in London.
A big city, a lot of people, but I am lonely
a long list of contacts but no real connections
I am lonely, weighed down by a rock
The fear grips me and all around is just dark
The exhausting battle has started
Only a hug can beat the loneliness
Now I can see myself reborn in the mirror
I can fly freely together with others.
The metamorphosis is has been accomplished.
Invisible Loneliness
A big city, a lot of people, but I am lonely
Illusion of Connections
A long list of contacts but no real connections
Heavy Like A Boulder
I am lonely, weighed down by a rock
Deep Dark
The fear grips me and all around is just dark
Exhausting Battle
The exhausting battle has started
Acceptance Hug
Only a hug can beat the loneliness
Rebirth of Self
Now I can see myself reborn in the mirror
Fly of Freedom
I can fly freely together with others.
Metamorphosis
The metamorphosis has been accomplished.
This project has been exhibited at Cluster Illustration Show,
1 – 5 May 2019, at Ugly Duck, London.
For the show, Ilaria created an interactive illustration as the last piece of the project. People had the possibility to stick a cutout piece on the canvas that originally had a simple illustration of a butterfly egg. They could get involved to transform the artist’s initial art into something community-driven and doing so, they could have the possibility to do a metamorphosis all together to overcome the loneliness.
