28 Jan The Moving Bit
This is a project realized for ‘Storybox: Tale of Absence, ‘What ifs’ and ‘Salvation’ an exhibition of new works inspired by the archives of Wilton’s Music Hall.
The Wilton’s collection contains hints and clues to not just the history of the building and its environment, but to the many fascinating people who walked the hallways of the world’s oldest grand music hall.
What inspired the artist in the creation of this project are three photographs founded in the archive: Wilton’s Auditorium, the Danish Girl set, and The Great Belzoni play. Those remind the artist of the sensation of adrenaline that everyone feels on stage before and during a show. Ilaria is familiar with this feeling as one of her passion is dancing and in the past, she had the occasion to be part of some performances.
Watching this archive material Ilaria revoke her dream as a teenager: become a dance choreographer, so what could be better than take the chance and create a performance at Wilton’s Music Hall?
To do this she needed some dancers. She decided to create them by combining small bits using the digital collage technique.
Mikal, Tisha, Mariah, Koba, and Max are the performers of the Moving Bit crew and thanks to the animation they bring life. So Ilaria could finally realize her dream and stage her first show at Wilton’s Music Hall.
